Steel is in Houston for Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge

It will take a number of months before all the pieces of steel are in Texas for the new Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge. The first shipment is in Houston!

The arrival of the steel heralds a tremendous milestone for the Santiago Calatrava designed bridge. Mr. Calatrava recently visited Dallas and was hosted by The Trinity Trust to view the construction site and meet with supporters of The Trinity

 
Trust and the media. This bridge is the first signature bridge to be constructed across the Trinity River, and it will be stronger and carry an increased volume of traffic when it opens and replaces the Continental Avenue Bridge. The Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge will feature three lanes of traffic in each direction plus a unique architectural style that will be unrivaled in the Southwest.

More Than 800 Run the Levee

Twice the number of runners as ever before met at Trammell Crow Park on March 7 for the 5th Annual Trinity River Levee Run. Produced by the City of Dallas, Trinity Commons Foundation, Dallas Running Club and Luke’s Locker, and sponsored by Bank of America, Ben E. Keith and Time Warner Cable, this year’s event brought out more than 800 runners.

The course this year took runners onto the levee, through the floodway and, for the first time, across the Continental Avenue Bridge for a great view of cityscapes, rivers views and the construction on the first of the new Calatrava signature bridges, the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge.

The columns, center support structure, approach beams and other features of the bridge are now going into place, so runners were able to see clearly how the roadway will sweep over and connect to Woodall Rodgers Freeway, giving Dallas a seamless connection between west and east Dallas. By next year’s race, the 400 foot center arch of the bridge will be visible from the Levee Run and other viewpoints.
