U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Gives TxDOT and the City a Green Light to Continue the Approaches for Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers gave approval for the construction work on the approaches of the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge to continue. Previously, the approaches across the west and east side of the levees within 50 feet of them could not be completed until additional analysis took place to ascertain what the impacts the bridge columns might have on the levees.

In a letter to the City, Colonel Richard J. Muraski, Jr., states,

“We have determined that the proposed work will not adversely affect the operation and maintenance of the Dallas Floodway, that it provides the required remediation of the levees, and is hereby authorized for construction as an added component of the previously approved MHH Bridge.”

“This is a historic day for Dallas,” Mayor Tom Leppert stated at the recent press conference.

Be Counted in 2010!

Every 10 years since 1790, there has been a Census in America. Next year, it will be time to be counted and the Dallas Complete Count Committee Partnerships needs your help.

In March, begin looking for the 2010 Census form. When you receive it at your home, do not delay, fill out the quick and easy form and return it via mail to the committee. They hope to have everyone counted by the deadline which is April 1, 2010. The questionnaire responses should represent the household as it exists when you receive the form.

Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Pauline Medrano is the National Census Advisory Committee Vice Chair, she said, “There is $400 Billion of annual federal funding at stake and a complete count of everyone living in Dallas on April 1 will ensure that we get out fair share.”

If you are a business owner, encourage a staff member to join a Complete Count Committee (CCC), issue a proclamation or other public endorsement, include census information in newsletters, mailings and online, use the logo in correspondence. At your home, mark the calendar in March and get ready to fill out the census form.
