Great Trinity Forest Adventure Hike!

On Saturday, February 21, bring the family to the forest without leaving town and participate in the 3rd Annual Great Trinity Forest Adventure Hike made possible by the North Texas Orienteering Association and the Trinity River Corridor Project. At this timed trial event, children and adults will have the opportunity to use their skills with just a map and compass to navigate the new trail in Rochester Park and get back to the starting point first!

Register on the North Texas Orienteering web site at www.ntoa.com to participate. The timed trail event is limited to 150 people. The event will be at Rochester Park, 3000 Municipal Street, Dallas, TX 75215 (HWY 175 South to Municipal exit).

Runners and outdoor enthusiasts mark your calendar for a spectacular run by the Trinity River made possible by the City of Dallas, Trinity Commons Foundation, Dallas Running Club, and Luke’s Locker. The 5th Annual Trinity River Levee Run is being held on March 7 at Trammell Crow Park, 3700 Sylvan Avenue, Dallas, TX 75207. Register at www.dallasrunningclub.com.

Proceeds from the 10K Race and 2 Mile Fun Run will benefit the Trinity Commons Foundation and the Dallas Running Club. This year’s race will again include a challenge between Dallas’ finest safety forces with Dallas Police Chief David Kunkle and Dallas Fire Chief Eddie Burns and their recruits vying for the Challenge trophy in the Glenn Carter Safety Challenge.

City of Dallas hosts Renowned Urban Planners to Discuss Urban Living in the 21st Century

A series of lectures and events took place January 19-22, 2009 to bring the message of Urban Living in the 21st Century to Dallas. Included in this series, the City of Dallas sponsored a workshop for the Dallas City Council at the Dallas Central Library. The event featured four of the country’s top experts in this field of thought – the new urbanism.

The workshop was held on January 21, 2009, and it was led by Larry Beasley, current special adviser to the Emirate of Abu Dubai and former director of the Vancouver Planning Department. It also included Christopher Leinberger, a land use strategist, developer, professor, consultant, and author, and a visiting Fellow at The Brookings Institution in Washington, D.C. He is doing research and creating strategies to develop or redevelop walk-able urban places. Two other experts were also part of the program, James Rojas, Los Angeles Transportation Planner, and Maurice Cox, former Mayor of Charlottesville, Virginia. View Story.

The timing of this event coincides with the work that is being done on the Trinity River Corridor Project and the Dallas City Council’s review and consideration for a form-based zoning ordinance.
