City Leaders Sign Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge Steel

On Wednesday, June 9, 2010, the Honorable Mayor Tom Leppert invited the Dallas City Council and City Manager Mary Suhm to the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge construction site to sign steel from the bridge’s center arch. City leaders showed their enthusiasm for the project through their creative signatures. The event commemorated the city’s historic progress on the bridge, designed by world-famous Spanish architect and engineer Santiago Calatrava.

While it looked like the event would be a wet one, the rain held off, and

Mayor Leppert, the City Council, City Manager Mary Suhm, and the city’s distinguished guests, dressed in safety vests and hardhats, enjoyed the opportunity to recognize progress on the bridge’s arch. A massive Manitowoc Crane looms over the construction site hoisting pieces of steel for the arch into the air. City leaders signed the 300,000-pound center piece which consists of three pieces and is scheduled for placement as the keystone (very top) of the 400 foot arch later this month if weather permits. The Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge will open in 2011.
