Trinity Commons Foundation Luncheon Commands a Record Crowd |

The annual Trinity Commons Foundation Luncheon was hosted at the beautiful Hilton Anatole Hotel on Wednesday, March 10, 2011. A record crowd was in attendance with over 500 guests. The focus of this luncheon is to provide an update about the Trinity River Corridor Project because the Trinity Trust Foundation focuses on making sure the voters of Dallas get what they approved in the 1998 and 2006 Bond Elections. |
Mayor Dwaine Caraway vibrantly spoke to the guests about his passion for the Trinity River and provided updates on the various projects; he also told a humorous story about a canoeing trip down the river, “It was an experience that I encourage each and every one of you to try. Go down there because it is beautiful.” He took a moment to ask everyone to continue working toward the fulfillment of the Trinity River Corridor Project because it is important to flood control and the growth and recreational aspects for Dallas.

Community View Minnesota Students Volunteer To “Pay It Forward” At Trinity River Audubon Center Forty student volunteers from the University of Minnesota-Crookston in the STLF (Students Today Leaders Forever) program traveling through the United States during spring break and doing a variety of volunteer service projects along the way, enjoyed the “Pay it Forward” concept at the Trinity River Audubon Center. The students visited the Bluestem Nursery, a native grasses nursery in Arlington, Texas. Owner, John Snowden, supervised the installation to help restore the Blackland Prairie land setting that makes up a large portion of the Trinity River Audubon Center.
EPA’s Generosity Clears the Trail for GPS Mapping The EPA has made its mark on some of the Trinity River trails- literally! In January, a group came out and executed GPS plotting of the small and large loops of Rochester Park. They were amazed at the quantity of large trees in the forest, many with diameters of over eight feet! In February, the EPA returned and plotted the hard and soft surface portions of the Texas Buckeye Trail. The EPA’s work is being used to create new maps for Rochester Park. Informative and attractive display panels are being created for the new kiosk installed at the park. Keep watch for the completion date, it will be coming later this spring. The new maps will be assist trail users to better experience the forest and the 900 acre park.
