Trinity Commons Luncheon features Major General Temple as Keynote Speaker

On May 4, the Trinity Commons foundation hosted their annual luncheon and fundraiser at the Fairmont Hotel. Many City of Dallas officials, business leaders and community leaders attended the luncheon to hear Major General Merdith Temple speak and to see for the first time the Transforming Texas Waterfronts Trinity River Vision displays representing two of the six projects in Texas — Dallas and Fort Worth. The other four projects are in Arlington, San Antonio, Waco, and Marble Falls.

Major General Merdith Temple is the Deputy Commanding General for Military and International Operations for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He is responsible for policy, program, and technical functions in the execution of over $20 billion of design, construction, and environmental programs for the Army, the Air Force, other Department of Defense and other federal agencies and foreign countries.Link to the General's bio.

Trinity River Corridor Project Celebrated Earth Day at the Wetlands

On Earth Day, thirty enthusiastic volunteers planted four hundred aquatic plants such as Spikerush and Softstem Bulrush in shallow water along the edge of Wetland Cell E-West. The group worked as a team in celebration of Earth Day planting the aquatic vegetation in water that rose knee deep in places along the soft edge of the cell. Wetland Cell E-West is part of the Lower Chain of Wetlands which consists of four large cells and two smaller restored cells.

The U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center which operates the Lewisville Aquatic Ecosystem Research Facility (LAERF) in Lewisville, Texas was joined by volunteers from Groundwork Dallas, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), students and their teacher from Greenhill School’s Environmental Studies Class, and a small group of private citizen volunteers. All the volunteers learned about immersed vegetation and planting techniques which they then applied at the 5 acre site.

The next wetland planting is May 27 from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. at Wetland Cell G. Volunteers are welcome!
