Dallas Trinity Paddling Trail Partially Opened by |

The Dallas Trinity Paddling Trail had its inauguration and kiosk unveiling with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department for the Texas Paddling Trails system on Tuesday, May 10 at the Sylvan Boat Launch in Trammell Crow Park. With this exciting new designation came the installation of new informational kiosks at the Sylvan Boat Launch, Dallas Wave and Loop 12 Boat Launch. The DFW portion of this system that celebrated part of its opening also included trails in Bridgeport, Grand Prairie, Lewisville, and Rowlett totaling 46 miles. This brings the DFW Paddling Trail total to an impressive 57 miles. |
Unique to the Dallas Trinity Paddling Trail is the view of downtown skyline, and the passage beneath the signature Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge. When the stretch of the river between Sylvan and Loop 12 is open after the construction is complete for the Dallas Wave and the Santa Fe Trestle Hike and Bike Trail, paddlers along this trail can then also choose to test out the rapid waters of the new Dallas Wave or simple enjoy its view via the bypass channel. We are pleased to have the Texas Paddling Trail designation as a boost to the recreational amenities in existence along the Trinity River Corridor.

Community View Dallas celebrates Earth Day with an activity-filled weekend There was no shortage of festivities to entertain and inform attendees of the two-day Earth Day Dallas celebration April 22 and 23. The Dallas Arts District was lined with engaging displays ranging from films to speaker presentations and musical acts. The Eco Expo included hundreds of booth displays from various local companies and organizations sharing their role in the effort to go green. The Trinity River Audubon Center and Trinity River Corridor Project were on hand to provide thousands of attendees with information and updates about their respective projects and activities. Earth Day Dallas was a great success, garnering 48,000 participants in its very first year in this format and location.
Dallas Hosts First Annual Reliant Trinity Wind Festival On May 14th, Dallas invited its citizens to take part in a fun-filled day of activities and entertainment along the Trinity River corridor to celebrate outdoor beauty and the use of wind-powered energy. Title sponsored by Reliant Energy gave out free kites and wildflower seeds. The event was met with enthusiasm and marked the birth of a new annual phenomenon unlike any other in the Southwest. Its attractions included everything from show kites to hot air balloon exhibits and inflatable bounce houses. Participants were encouraged to fly their own kites alongside professionals who spent the day sending their show kites into the sky. In addition to citing the importance of a powerful resource, the event also served to inform Dallas residents of the Trinity River Corridor Project’s progression by giving them a chance to experience some of its features first hand.
