Trinity River Wind Festival
Presented by NRG is Back for 2013!

The City of Dallas and corporate sponsor NRG will host the one-of-a-kind Trinity River Wind Festival on May 18 to celebrate the power of wind and renewable energy. The event will be held 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Dallas Floodway at the intersection of Riverfront Boulevard and Commerce Street. All events and activities are free.

The spectacular Japanese kite makers will headline the festival’s many family-friendly events and wind-driven activities. Other highlights include high-flying action from Second Spin Disc Dogs show kites of all shapes and sizes presented by Troy Gun and Team TKO Stunt Kite Flyers, Gary Moss and Gayle Woodul show kite flyer teams, along with the Dallas Area Kite Fliers Organization.

“Each year all those flying kites exemplify the magic and uniqueness of this festival and the commitment of the city and NRG to the community,” said Craig Holcomb, executive director of the Trinity Commons Foundation. “This is going to be a great year for the Trinity with construction beginning on The Horseshoe Project IH-35 and Margaret McDermott Bridge (IH-30),

the Continental Avenue Pedestrian Bridge, the Texas Horse Park, and the Trinity Forest Golf Course..”

Other activities include the Kroger Kids Fun Zone with bounce houses, clowns and face painters. Native birds will be on-site provided by the Blackland Prairie Raptor Center and exotic and native birds and animals from the Dallas Zoo Outreach.  Visitors can add flowers to the Dallas Floodway, make a paper airplane, sneak a peek at Sprints’ latest cellular telephones, talk to the experts from the North Texas Hang/Paragilders Association or spin a pinwheel and eat a burger from Bubba’s Grill.

NRG’s subsidiary Reliant will provide free kites to the first 2,000 attendees at the welcome center and musical entertainment at the Reliant Entertainment Stage. Attendees are invited to bring their own kites, pinwheels, whistles, hand thrown glider planes, scarves, or other wind-driven items.
