More Than 10,000 People Visited the Trinity River Audubon Center

“The Trinity River Audubon Center represents the beginning of an effort by citizens of Dallas to reclaim the Trinity River,” stated Councilmember Dave Neumann at the recent Trinity River Audubon Center Ribbon Cutting and Dedication.

The Trinity River Audubon Center is open, just eight minutes from downtown Dallas in the Great Trinity Forest. More than 600 guests came to the 120-acre site for a pre-opening reception at sundown on October 16, 2008. Presiding over the event were City of Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert, National Audubon Society President and CEO John Flicker and renowned Design Architect Antoine Predock. hikes, birds of prey, and a peek at the center’s green roof via a large scissor lift, which took guests to the top of the administration wing.

On Friday, October 17, 2008, more than 300 guests came for the ribbon cutting and dedication events. Mayor Tom Leppert, City of Dallas City Manager Mary Suhm, and National Audubon Society President and CEO John Flicker were joined by other dignitaries including Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson, Texas State Senator Royce West and Dallas City Councilmembers. The ribbon cutting ceremony was a special moment with area school children and local college students helping get the ribbon cut and officially bringing the amazing new center to life.
