The Trinity River Audubon Center is Opening
October 18-19, 2008!

Recently, approximately 80 Wood Storks were sighted in the ponds around the center along with over 20 Roseate Spoonbills. And guess what all you Roadrunner cartoon fans, that’s right! A Greater Roadrunner with gorgeous plumage and a striking black top knot was seen crossing the road within the center. He put on quite the show running down the fence line at a top speed of over 17 miles an hour before disappearing into the Great Trinity Forest – all the while watching out for Wiley Coyote. Beep! Beep!

To date, the Audubon staff has already counted over 100 different resident and migrant species of birds.

Two wet labs and three classrooms are in the Education Wing. Trinity River Audubon Center features an Exhibit hall, Video Center, Gift Shop, Café and a Conference and Meeting Room; four miles of hiking and birding trails, and the Discovery Garden made possible by the Meadows Foundation, where children can see a wetland pond at eye-level.

Some of the programs at the center will be geared toward introducing young children to nature such as the Birds of Play program for children ages toddler to 4 years; and activities for the older children ages 5-12 include cute nature clubs like the Bug Club, Bird Club and even a Frog Club! It gives children something new and interesting to discover and learn.

For adults there will be Nature Yoga, Trinity Treks, and Birding 101 where you learn how to bird watch and identify them.
