Party! Bridging the Trinity (con't)

From start to finish the party was a vision of modern design with stark Lucite™ and Plexiglas™ booths and seating areas; leather and chrome furniture staged with animal print rugs; giant white globe lights; multiple bar areas with tasty selections such as vodka snow cones, Micheladas and other libration options.

Street artists such as a fortune teller and fire breather entertained the crowd of 600 as they mingled under the stars and enjoyed the lighting for the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge construction site replete with Trinity green light beams replicating the 400 foot arch that will rise from the flood way.

Musical entertainment was provided by artists DJ Lucy Wrubel and the band Boys Named Sue.

The fireworks finale was produced by Pyrotechnico. It included aerial display shells from manufacturers around the globe including China, Italy, Japan, and Spain representing styles such as display cakes, candles, large mines, and comets. All fireworks were choreographed with a custom-created music track

A huge round of applause goes out to The Trinity Trust presenting sponsor Williams Brothers Construction Co. along with American Contractors Insurance; Haynes and Boone, LLP; Texas Energy Holdings, Inc.; CH2M Hill/WRT/URS Design Team; D Magazine; DCEO Magazine; People Newspapers; Eddie Deen; Andrews Distributing Company; and 360 Vodka.

Dallas, a City of Remarkable Philanthropy and Vision
$15 Million Donated
$10 Million Anonymous Gift

On September 24, 2009, The Trinity Trust Foundation and the City of Dallas announced the donation of a $10 million gift. “This landmark $10 million anonymous gift given to the City of Dallas provides the funds to convert the Continental Bridge into a pedestrian and living bridge for everyone in Dallas to enjoy,” said City of Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert.

Once the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge is completed and opened, then the work will begin on the Continental Avenue Bridge. The anonymous and generous donor gave the $10 million in honor of Mary McDermott Cook, chair of The Trinity Trust Foundation, to honor her tireless vision for Dallas.

Mary McDermott Cook said, “We are excited about this significant gift which will transform the Continental Bridge into an outdoor venue for walkers and bikers.  It will be beautifully landscaped and include the infrastructure and facilities for recreational events, markets and fairs.”

Dr. Gail Thomas, president of The Trinity Trust, said, “We are enormously grateful for this gift and for the generosity of those who believe in The Trinity project and the mark it will have for generations to come.  We are trying to create a 21st century city with a living bridge for the people, and we are thankful to our generous donor who believes in what we’re doing.”

Deedie and Rusty Rose Give $5 Million

On October 6, 2009, the suspense continued to build for a second significant gift given to The Trinity Trust Foundation for the City of Dallas.  Deedie and Rusty Rose donated $5 million and a portion of this gift, $2 million, will be used to fund the new Dallas CityDesign Studio for the term of five years.

Housed in Dallas City Hall, the Studio will work collaboratively to advise, plan and consult with public and private entities on the importance of urban design in the 21st Century Dallas.  This resource center will engage, advise and support work focused both outside the levees, particularly as potential development occurs, and within the Trinity River Corridor Project.
