Dallas was born on the banks of the Trinity River. But like many of our nation’s waterways, the Trinity eventually was pushed to the wayside as Dallas became defined by its skyline. The Trinity River Corridor Project is breathing new life into our river and its habitat. In fact, people who have lived in Dallas their entire lives are coming to see the river for the first time.

The images in this exhibit reflect how locals see the Trinity… through their eyes and their camera lenses. Featured are the winning photographs of the 350 images entered into the first Trinity River Photo Contest. The City saw the contest as an opportunity to make a difference in a number of ways: to encourage people to get outdoors and experience the amazing natural resources we have in Dallas; to provide a fun and easy project for school age children during the summer months; to showcase the Trinity River Corridor Project; and to help photographically document the vast area this project encompasses because changes are coming to many of these locations in the months ahead.

Photographers submitted their images in three groups: Pro (receive all or a major portion of their income from photography), Amateur (beginning or novice photographers) and Youth (17 years of age and under). Photos were submitted in four categories: Architecture/Structures, Forest, River, and Wildlife. Four professional photographers selected the winning photographs: Michael Hamtil; Allison Smith; Jesse Hornbuckle; Reginald Loftin.

Thanks to all of the dedicated contest sponsors! The first exhibit was hosted at Methodist Dallas Medical Center, and they sponsored the special reception kicking off the 2010 tour.
